Why Art Belongs In The Workspace

What do you imagine when you hear the word coworking space? I’m sure for many, you immediately create an image of several desks, chairs, maybe some plants, and meeting rooms.
At Groundwork, we believe that art has a place in our everyday lives, which includes where we work. Our spaces are already filled with small business owners, entrepreneurs, freelancers, and creatives. We truly feel that artwork not only adds character to a space and sparks conversation, but has the ability to encourage thinking beyond our usual routines. Yes of course art in the workspace creates a visually appealing environment, but it also subconsciously influences us to recognize the connection between creativity and the work we do every day.

Creativity Isn’t Just For Artists
Creativity is often associated with painting, drawing, music, or other traditional art forms. However, creative thinking extends far beyond the arts. An entrepreneur developing a new business idea, a marketer designing a campaign, a writer finding the right words, or a business owner navigating an unexpected challenge are all engaging in creative thinking.
Whether you consider yourself an artist or not, creativity is likely already part of your everyday work. Creativity also doesn’t always mean creating something from scratch. Sometimes, it simply means looking at something familiar from a different perspective. In a work environment, that ability to approach an idea or challenge differently can lead to better conversations, new solutions, and opportunities we may not have considered before. Art reminds us that there is rarely only one way to see something, and that same openness can be valuable in the way we approach our work.

Building Community Through Art
One of the things that makes coworking special is the opportunity to connect with people outside of our own industries.
Art creates another avenue for those connections. At Groundwork, our gallery spaces bring art into the everyday coworking experience, creating opportunities for members, artists, and the broader community to engage with one another. An exhibition can introduce members to local artists, spark conversations between coworkers, or bring people into the space who might not otherwise cross paths. These interactions can lead to new relationships, collaborations, and opportunities that extend beyond the gallery walls.
By incorporating art into our workspace, we’re creating an environment where business and creativity can exist alongside one another, strengthening the connections between the people who make up our community.
Our art spaces are more than decorative additions to our coworking spaces. They reflect our commitment to supporting the creative community and recognizing the role art plays in the cultural and economic life of our region.

At Groundwork, we want our spaces to be more than just a place to sit down, open your laptop, and get to work. By bringing art into the workspace, we’re creating an environment that celebrates creativity, encourages connection, and supports the artists within our community. Whether you come to Groundwork to build a business, work remotely, meet with clients, or simply find a productive place to spend your day, art is part of the experience, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
