Remote to Connected: How Garnelli Marcel Thrives at Groundwork

From the warmth of the Georgia sun to cold New England winters, Garnelli has jumped right into the experience—and the same can be said of Groundwork. With every thoughtful interaction, he genuinely lifts the spirit of the space.
Garnelli Marcel shares how coworking for remote professionals supports his productivity, focus, and connection. But, it’s his consistency and presence is what truly stands out. With structured work habits, dedicated focus time, and a strong sense of routine, he brings both intention and positivity into each day, adding to the welcoming, collaborative energy that defines the community.
What’s your profession?
Accountant
Describe a typical work day for you.
I start by logging in and syncing account systems, processing uploads, and managing invoices and vendor relationships. A big part of my day is supporting my AP staff — answering questions and helping manage their workload. I wrap up by balancing the books and processing payments.
What’s the biggest challenge you face at your job?
Transitioning from a fully in-person role to remote work was a big adjustment — I really missed the human interaction. Groundwork has been a game changer for that. Even though everyone here works for different companies, the social aspect fills that gap. Whether it’s a quick chat in the kitchen, lunch conversations, or just being around people in a shared space, it makes remote work feel a lot less isolating.
Do you have a morning routine?
Absolutely. I wake up and start with my daily text, which is a bible scripture examination — it sets the tone for my day. Then I get ready, make my coffee, get 30 minutes of cardio in, and head down to Groundwork ready to work
What are your favorite productivity tips or hacks?
I block out focused work hours where I silence notifications for an hour at a time. No interruptions, just music and deep focus. It’s simple but it’s made a huge difference in how much I actually get done.
What do you listen to during the day?
Haitian Kompa and Southern Hip Hop — depending on the energy I need. Kompa keeps me relaxed and focused, Southern Hip Hop kicks in when I need to push through.
How do you benefit from using a coworking space?
As an extrovert working remotely, Groundwork has been very beneficial. It’s a clean, quiet, professional environment with all the office perks — but what really sets it apart is the community. Honestly it’s one of the most innovative ideas I’ve come across for remote workers. You get the flexibility of working here with the energy and structure of an office.
What’s in your digital toolbox?
Netsuite, QuickBooks, FreshBooks, SAP, Bill.com, Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
What inspires you?
My friends and family, the freedom that comes from working hard, and the ability to travel and experience different cultures. At the end of the day everything I do is motivated by wanting to build a life where I can take care of my wife and the people I love while still having the flexibility to really live.

What are some of your goals for the future?
I’m currently in the early stages of developing an AI-integrated platform aimed at personalizing and improving everyday service experiences. It’s a long term vision but I’m passionate about using technology to create smarter, more human-centered solutions. Beyond that I’m focused on continuing to grow in my accounting career and building long term financial stability.
