Meet our Marketing Intern Megan Zydel
We’re excited to welcome our newest marketing intern Megan Zydel to the Groundwork! team. Megan joins the growing line of talented, energetic UMass Dartmouth students we’ve had the pleasure of working with. Megan will be with us for the year and she will focus specifically on marketing all of our events– a significant job and a huge support to our operations.
Megan recently answered some questions from us about her life as a university student. As always, the student perspective is refreshing and it inspires us to hear what the next generation of leaders is thinking and doing.
What’s your major?
I am a Marketing major and looking to claim a minor in Management Information Systems.
Describe a typical day for you.
A typical day for me is waking up, drinking a cup of coffee, and completing any tasks that need to be done that day. I am president of my sorority and a Resident Assistant on campus, so I am always busy with something to do! No matter the day, I always drink a cup of tea in the late afternoon/evening as a pick-me-up for the rest of the day. I am slowly becoming a tea fanatic.
What’s the biggest challenge you face at school?
The biggest challenge I face at school is finding free time for myself. I have designated certain days of the week for Resident Assistant things, sorority things, and homework. While I enjoy all of my commitments, I usually sacrifice free time or socializing time to finish up homework or unfinished tasks.
Do you have a morning routine?
My morning routine consists of waking up, taking a shower, and drinking a cup of coffee. While drinking my coffee, I’ll check my email and any other notifications I have. Once I finish my coffee, I walk to the library on campus for breakfast and begin the rest of my day.
What are your favorite productivity tips or hacks?
My favorite productivity tip/hack is to finish the hard stuff first. From big class projects to sticky situations, I’ve found to be way less stressed if I take care of these things before doing anything else! Another tip I always tell myself when I’m about to do something I really don’t want to is that everything builds character. I may not want to have a difficult conversation with a person, but if I do, it will build character.
What do you listen to during the day?
I don’t listen to too much music during the day, but I love listening to alternative and pop music whenever I drive or if my room is too quiet. I also love playing new music playlists on Spotify and discovering new songs and artists.
How do you benefit from working at a coworking space?
As a student, I see so many benefits from working in a coworking space. There are people to network with and I can learn a lot from physically being in the work space instead of working on my own.
What’s in your digital toolbox?
My digital toolbox consists of my email, Facebook, Twitter, and sometimes Instagram and Snapchat. I’m pretty inconsistent on my personal social media during the school year, but I enjoy using Twitter and Facebook for keeping up with friends and current events.
What is the most surprising or unusual aspect of your life?
I absolutely love cats. I have a cat mug, cat sweater, cat pillowcase, a cat quilt, cat socks, cat scissors… Almost anything you can own with a cat on it, I have it!
What inspires you?
What I have found to be inspiring is that I am able to surprise myself with my own accomplishments. Sometimes I feel like I have too much going on, but I have found that writing everything down and setting mini goals for myself helps a lot with accomplishing everything I need to get done.
