Member Spotlight: First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union
If you are out and about in the South Coast community, you’ve probably met someone from First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union. They work relentlessly to stay connected and support important community initiatives.
First Citizen’s also deserves notice for being one of Groundwork’s first corporate members. Their marketing team, led by Leslie Poulin, held an offsite brainstorming session here, and the rest was history. Leslie and team have not only been great members, but they went above and beyond offering us helpful feedback about their first coworking experience. It’s really cool to see a local, established credit union understand the value of getting offsite for creative, focused, and productive meetings.
In this interview, Leslie shares some insight on what First Citizens’ offers, and how they give back to the South Coast.
What does First Citizens’ do?
Our mission is to positively and meaningfully impact our customers by providing financial products and services that are easy to obtain and convenient to use, while at the same time creating and maintaining a positive presence in communities that we serve. Today, with over 80,000 members and assets over $750 million, First Citizens’ has full service offices in New Bedford, Raynham, Taunton, Mattapoisett, Wareham, Falmouth, Mashpee, Hyannis, Orleans and a new office in Hanover, MA coming in Fall 2019.
Our services and products include the latest technology from Mobile Banking with Card Controls and Alerts, to Mobile Check Deposit, to simple basics like a checking account. We also offer unique accounts with special benefits for Veterans and active Military Duty personnel and as well our community champions such as teachers, police, fire, EMS and healthcare professionals. We also provide a variety of loans including mortgages, solar loans, home improvement, small business and auto loans.

Are you active in giving back to the local community?
First Citizens’ isn’t just a credit union or a business. Time and time again, we refer to ourselves as a family.
Why do we feel that way?
Because it’s filled with people who truly care about each other and their communities. Over the years, and especially this past year, many of our employees have demonstrated their compassion by volunteering for various nonprofits. In total, First Citizen’s team members volunteered over 1400 hours in 2018! We also contributed over $55,000 in 2018 to local non-profits in our communities.
Our commitment to the communities in Southeastern MA and Cape Cod has spanned over eight decades, with continued investment in organizations and initiatives that contribute to the economic and social well-being of the people in these communities. This commitment was further reinforced with the official launch of the First Citizens’ Charitable Foundation early this year, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, dedicated to supporting the community by establishing a relationship with local organizations and providing financial support.
