Fall Activities in New Bedford and the South Coast

Ladies and gentlemen, fall is around the corner! It’s finally time to turn off the window fan and sleep with some blankets. I don’t know about you, but I welcome the first signs of fall: the beaches are uncrowded, the garden is winding down, and there are all kinds of yummy seasonal things to eat and drink.

To celebrate the first signs of fall, here are some local treats to help you enjoy the season to the fullest:

The Candy Apple Farm

This family-owned stand is open for the season on Main Street in Acushnet. Stop by for delicious and homemade candy apples, fudge, coffee syrup and more. The Brodeur family has been running this stand since 1989, and it’s not unusual to see lines forming when they open at noon, as the most popular items often sell out. Dartmouth Orchards

It just isn’t fall in New England without some good ol’ fashioned apple picking. Head to Dartmouth Orchards on Westport Road in North Dartmouth to pick your own and try some of their award-winning cider made on the premises.

Oktoberfest in New Bedford

New Bedford’s very own Oktoberfest is just around the corner. Make your way to Pier 3 on October 13 for craft brews and live entertainment. This event is brought to you by the South Coast Business Alliance, and Groundwork! is proud to be one of this year’s sponsors. Get your tickets in advance online or at the door.

Movie nights at GW

I can’t help but plug one of our own initiatives , especially since it is such a good one! Groundwork is launching a fall film series on AHA! nights September – November. Get cozy and join us to nerd out on quality independent film. The first in the series is the documentary “Farmingville,” screening this Thursday at 7:30pm.
