YOUR WEEKEND – and week: Oktoberfest; Game Day; Co-Creative and New Be, New Me
SATURDAY, OCT. 1 – Who doesn’t like beer – and maybe bratwurst? The 11th Annual NB Oktoberfest happens today down on the New Bedford State Pier. Featuring 35+beers from 20+ breweries plus food from No Problemo, Knew Potato Caboose, Domino’s, The Bearded Chicken, Fancheezical, and Greasy Luck Brewery. It also features these outstanding musicians: The Pourmen, Living On A Bad Name, and Celisse. The NB Oktoberfest is presented by SouthCoast Business Alliance – and we’re happy to report that one of Groundwork’s very own members, Pidalia has signed up to be a sponsor. Proceeds from the event support at-risk youth and educational based charities along the SouthCoast. $25 entry at door. Pre-sale online for $20. Ticket includes entry only; beer, food, and merchandise are additional. Tickets available online here.
SUNDAY, OCT. 2 – Catch the Pats vs. Bills game at 1:00 p.m. at the watering hole of your choosing – but if course, we have a few suggestions. If you prefer your Patriots experience with plates of heaping food, check out the Endzone Sports Pub at 218 Coggeshall Street, New Bedford. Their cacoila plate can’t be beat. If you’re a strict beer and chaser fan, then stick with The Garden downtown on Union or the nearby Dipper Cafe on Purchase Street down the street from Groundwork!, a block from Clasky Common Park. If you want a bit of both, then check out Top Shelf Bar & Grill at 1825 Acushnet Avenue.
MONDAY, OCT. 3 – Groundwork! hosts an info session this evening for downtown’s soon-to-be Co-Creative Center. The mission of the Co-Creative Center is to establish a footprint for creative enterprise in the historic downtown to connect, support and celebrate artists and cultural entrepreneurship.Come to a “show and tell” networking session with other artisans and makers to brainstorm on the social design of the new space. We will have an artist/maker survey for your thoughts on what tools are most needed to take your interests to the next level. Light refreshments served and many members of the greater Groundwork! community will be participating – so expect lots of great ideas! Begins at 5:00 p.m.; RSVP here.
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 5 – Get yourself to the Zeiterion Theatre tonight for the the official launch of the New Be, New Me Outreach Campaign featuring the big screen premiere of “We Run This” (with Pride), by Samantha Johnson and directed by Groundwork! member Ben Gilbarg. The video features 100 plus youth from New Bedford and was produced by Gilbarg’s Visionary Communications. You can read a bit more about Ben in this recent blog post. Tonight’s event will be hosted by Tem Blessed with sounds by DJ Anghelli. The evning also features videos by Jillian Jensen, YAP!, and Matthew Neves.Tickets are $4 in advance, $8 at the door.
