We just finished stuffing our faces with pie here at Groundwork, so I found myself looking for healthy ways to spend the holiday weekend. It turns out there’s quite a bit– from a Thanksgiving Day 5k to hot yoga, New Bedford is suddenly becoming a health and wellness mecca. (Okay, not quite yet. But we are on the way!) Read on for some ideas on how to kick off the holiday season in style:
Fairhaven Turkey Trot
November 22 at 8am
Kick off the holiday at Cushman Park for Fairhaven’s annual 5K Turkey Trot. You can reward yourself later with an extra slice of pie! This race benefits Shepard’s Pantry; register online or in person.
Black Friday Hot Yoga
November 23 at 9am, 10am, 11am, 4pm, 5pm, 6pm at Good Yoga
New Bedford’s newest yoga studio, Good Yoga, will carry on the 7-year tradition started at Yoga on Union: hot yoga all day on Black Friday! You’ll have six opportunities to try Good Yoga’s signature “good-n-sweaty” sequence, including a 6pm class led by yours truly. Classes will fill up fast so be sure to reserve online.
November 23 from 6-8pm at Solshine Yoga
Enjoy a heated yoga class with Erin Poyant, lymph massage, and detoxification lecture from Carissa Wills-Demello of Bilo Herbs. This class is sure to help you maintain some self-care habits during the holidays.
Small Business Saturday
November 24, downtown New Bedford
Support local businesses and shop small on Saturday. See our 2017 holiday gift guide for some great downtown New Bedford shopping ideas. Our favorite gift shop Hippo is hosting a pop-up sale of planters from Knot and Vine from 12-4pm. And the yoga continues!
