YOUR WEEKEND: Wrestling, Reggae and more….

Reggae on West Beach returns this Sunday, July 30…

Summer Sounds on the Pier

FRIDAY, JULY 28 – Louie Leeman and Cheap Sneakers perform from 6:00-8:00pm tonight as part of the Summer Sound Series. The outdoor, summer concerts take place on Fisherman’s Wharf, Port of New Bedford – free of charge. Bring a chair and enjoy “a band that can make a party come alive, with roots in Rock ‘n Roll, R&B, Folk and Blues,” according to Destination New Bedford. They’ll be performing classic songs by some of the best artists of the rock era: Van Morrison, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Chuck Berry and others.

Yoga & Picnic Pop-up

SATURDAY, JULY 29 – We’re taking you outside of New Bedford for this one, but it’s worth the trip thanks to the fabulous Jeff Costa. He’s the dude who brings Yoga and Meditation to the masses at Cushman Park and Custom Square House Park respectively. In fact, he’s all over South Coast and beyond spreading good vibes and better health. Today, Jeff is hosting a Yoga & Picnic Pop-up at How On Earth (62 Marion Road, Mattapoisett) from noon – 2:00pm. Here’s the 411: Yoga starts at noon and lunch will start at 1:00p.m. This event will be all inclusive for $20.00 with a yoga lesson, lunch afterward with a cocktail or mocktail to end your day well.” Namaste, Jeff adds, to which we reply, “Right back at ya’, baby!”

Slammasters

SATURDAY, JULY 29 – House of Bricks Pro Wrestling returns to Moose Lodge 914 (119 Rockdale Avenue, NB) tonight at 7:00pm. The tag team of HoB Pro Wrestling and the Moose Lodge come together to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as they present HoB SLAMMASTERS!  All tickets are just $10 with proceeds going to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – New England Office.

Ladies who brunch

SUNDAY, JULY 30 – Incognito, found at 1606-1610 Acushnet Avenue, NB holds another of their popular Drag Brunches today. The eye candy is as delicious as the food as their fab female impersonators strut their stuff – over eggs and French toast! “Join Jacqueline DiMera, LaDiva Jonz and Vi’let as they return with their brand of glitz, glam and humor,” Incognito writes. Make your reservations TODAY (they always sell-out) by calling (508) 993-3933. (Note: Please call after 4pm.) Show and chow time is 11:00am – 2:00pm. (Note: If you’re more of a Saturday night rather than Sunday morning person, get your drag on at Le Place when Queens of the South Coast present Beach Babes: Summer Bash beginning at 9:00pm at 20 Kenyon Street! 21+/$5 cover.)

Reggae on the Beach!

SUNDAY, July 30 – The last Sunday of a summer month means the return of Reggae on West Beach during 2017 – as in today from 3:00-7:00pm. Groundworkers caught the June edition and had a blast groovin’ on Clarks Cove in New Bedford’s south end. “Reggae On West Beach is a free community event that is inclusive, multi-generational, welcoming and family-friendly for all who attend, celebrating Jamaica’s gift to the world: reggae music.” And that certainly works for us! Hear the sounds right across from Hazelwood Park…

Creature Feature

SUNDAY, JULY 30 – Fresh off his famous annual BBQ on Saturday (co-hosted with wife, Sue), Chuck Hauck opens Creature Feature at The Vault gallery (169 Rockdale Avenue) this afternoon from 3:00-6:00pm. It’s a new art show – also featuring David Mello – with Chuck’s infamous creature sculptures and Mello’s ceramic wall sculpture. The artists will be present and light refreshments will be served…and Chuck’s work doesn’t bite despite appearances to the contrary.
