YOUR WEEKEND: Women on the march…
“I coulda been a contender!”
FRIDAY, JAN. 19 – Classic film screenings are – sadly – rare in New Bedford. So don’t miss the chance to catch one at New Bedford Whaling National Park (33 William Street) tonight at 7:00 p.m. Marlon Brando stars in Elia Kazan’s “On The Waterfront” in an Oscar-winning role. The film has been dubbed a “masterpiece of urban poetry” – and we certainly agree with that assessment. Shown as part of the DockUMentaries free film series with the New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center.
Women’s March New Bedford
SATURDAY, JAN. 20 – On the first anniversary of the legendary Women’s March, New Bedford marks the occasion with a march beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Custom House Square Park. A full line-up of participating supporters, groups and organizations can be found on the Facebook event page here, where organizers write: In all areas, ATMA (Action Together Massachusetts) and all March affiliates stand for equal rights, religious tolerance, freedom of the press, science, inclusivity, social justice, economic freedom, and fundamental human decency.”
New New Bedford Watercolor Drawings
SATURDAY, JAN. 20 – The first show of 2018 in the Groundwork! Gallery opens tonight with a reception from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Works by Carl Simmons are featured – and he was featured in this previous blog post.
Brady BBQ
SUNDAY, JAN. 21 – No Joke Smoke BBQ sets up a pop-up shop in New Bedford today at Mary’s Steamed Hamburgers, 288 Union Street. No Joke hails from Swansea, and is known for their special BBQ sauce, Made with “seasonal ingredients from local farmers and, of course, lots of love.” They’ll be offering a special bill of fare perfect for game day, including party packs, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Get Buzzed
BONUS PICK: WEDNESDAY, JAN. 24 – The monthly NOT working event, Business Buzz visits a new spot tonight that’s getting a lot of buzz of its own. Come join Groundworkers, Civic Support and Southcoast Chamber members at Pub 6T5 at 736 Ashley Boulevard from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. for some fun, food, cocktails and casual networking. Pub 6T5 is where the former 6th Bristol Club was located – but its blazing a delicious new culinary trail of its own in New Bedford’s North End and earning rave reviews. Come get a taste this evening!
