Magic Frontier Tournament
SATURDAY, MARCH 4 – One of the often overlooked assets of New Bedford is the fact that city has its very own comic book store, New England Comics located at 2184 Acushnet Avenue. When you need your Batman fix, this is the place to drive your Batmobile to. Now, it’s all Greek to me but tonight from 6-9:00pm they’ll be holding a “Magic Frontier Tournament” – which probably means a lot to comic book geeks who take a deeper dive than I do. So they will know what the following means: Frontier Format allows expansion sets and core sets from Magic 2015 onward. Frontier format thus encompasses all cards that have been printed in a core or expansion set using the M15 card frame.” So there you have it. A $10 entry fee goes toward a 1st Place Magic From The Vault Lore, and additional prizes paid out in store credit depending on number of entrants. You can get tickets at NewEnglandComics.com.
The Mindful Athlete
SUNDAY, MARCH 5 – George Mumford presents :The Mindful Athlete: Secrets to Pure Performance” today at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater New Bedford (166 Jenney Street). They write, “George Mumford has taught mindfulness and meditation since 1989 to some of the biggest names in sports history including Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Phil Jackson, Shaquille O’Neal, Client Dempsey, Olympic figure-skater Sasha Cohen, and many others. We’re thrilled to have him in New Bedford to offer his expert insight in the following two workshops…11:30am – Mindful Coaching; 1:30pm – Mindful Athlete (great for middle-college students, open to all ages and all persons).” What will really put your mind at ease? SUNDAY, MARCH 5 – We’re huge fans of Christopher Swanson’s Comedy X nights – New Bedford’s longest running Standup Comedy show! It’s back tonight at Gallery X (169 William Street) with a line-up that includes – in addition to host Swanson – the following comedians: Ray Harrington – ABC, Fox, Current TV, award winning documentary: Be a Man, his album The Worst is Over on Standup Records! debuted at the top of Itunes and Amazon comedy charts; Nick LaVallee – Funny or Die, Laugh Factory in Hollywood CA, Rooftop Comedy; Rob Greene – Rogue Island Comedy Festival, Winner of Comedy Connections Summer Showdown 2015; Josh Ramirez – Comedy Studio; Sarah Martin – Steve Katsos Show; Corey Stroffolino – La Dispute.
