YOUR WEEKEND: House Tours; Printmaking; Jazz Brunch & More…
New Bedford Preservation Society House Tour
SAT. DEC. 10 & SUN. DEC. 11 – The City of New Bedford has been defined by its stately homes since Melville walked these streets. This weekend, you can step back in time and find out why during the New Bedford Preservation Society’s 25th Annual Holiday House Tour. Open house at some of the city’s most beautiful homes happens Saturday, Dec. 10 from 4 – 8:00 p.m. and Sun. Dec. 11 from 1 – 5:00 p.m. Starting point both days will be the Wamsutta Club, 427 County Street, where a pre-tour brunch will be served on Sunday (11 to 1 p.m.) and where a Holiday Raffle and Silent Auction will be held during tour hours. (Brunch reservations – $20 including tax and tip – are suggested but not required. Call the Wamsutta Club directly at 508-997-7431 for brunch reservations.) Tour tickets are $25 at the door. Advance tickets – $22 – can be purchased online (through today, Fri. December 9 only) here.
Printmaking at TL6 Gallery
SATURDAY, DEC. 10 – Printmakers and collectors look forward to this every year. It’s the annual TL6 Gallery MVB Printmaker Holiday Show & Bookbinding Demonstration. And it happens today from noon – 5:00 p.m. at the gift store and gallery located at 100 William Street, downtown New Bedford. Come meet Michael Vincent Bushy – a printmaker, bookbinder, and art educator. He binds journals in leather and paper. Each book is hand cut and stitched, and all images are original prints (monotype, etchings, block prints and stamps). In addition to his usual repertoire of handmade books, prints, wall art and calendars, Mr. Bushy will be bringing his brand new adult coloring books this year! You can get a heads up at www.mvbprintmaker.net.
Downtown NB Ugly Sweater Pub Crawl
SATURDAY, DEC. 10 – You have to love a Cultural Council that understands the value of a local pub. And then actually organizes a good, old-fashioned holiday pub crawl! That’s just what the New Bedford Cultural Council has done – and thrown in an ugly sweater contest, to boot. It kicks off at 4:00 p.m. at Cork Wine and Tapas, 90 Front Street, where $10 gets you a bracelet for admission to the rest of the crawl. And hey – that cover goes to the Standard-Times Neediest Family Fund. So, you can drink with a good conscious (and responsibly!). See the FB event page for additional details.
Jazz Brunch at Greasy Luck
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 11 – The new performance venue, eatery and brewpub Greasy Luck isn’t just adding a spark to New Bedford nightlife. It’s also making Sunday mornings savory with a Jazz Brunch! Release your inner foodie and Chet Baker from 11: 00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. today. Performing for you is the smooth Joaquin Santos – with friends like John Harrison, Ron Macdi, Pat Loomis and “the sexy, sultry voice of the lovely Ms. Lori Gomes.” Sounds scrumptious! Reserve your spot here.
BONUS: Meet the artists of Hippo
THURSDAY, DEC. 15 – The artisan gift emporium HIPPO has been packing them in since opening their doors a few short weeks ago. Tonight from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., come meet the artists behind some of the work you find here at the corner of Union and Purchase Streets!
