Wine & Gypsies

FRIDAY, FEB. 17 – Travessia Winery (760 Purchase Street) presents an evening of music and wine tonight. They’ve got the wine – but are importing the tunes. Nate Cozzolino and David Begin will perform from 6:00-9:00pm in Travessia’s tasting room and gallery. They write, “Armed with a catalogue of both wildly inspired original songs and refreshingly re-imagined covers, Nate’s performances serve to tell the ongoing story of the highs, lows and perpetual pushings-forward of a gypsy life very much examined.” $5 cover.

SouthCoast Green-Rainbow Party

SATURDAY, FEB.18 – There are few reasons why I would send readers out of New Bedford during a weekend; this is one of them. The SouthCoast Green Rainbow Party – “The Southcoast chapter of the Green-Rainbow Party of Massachusetts; a party for people, peace, and planet” – meets today in Fall River from 11:00am-1:00pm for their bi-monthly meeting. “Join us…to discuss campaigns, actions, solidarity efforts, and working together to build and legitimize our party in South Coast Massachusetts,” they write on their Facebook event page. Personally, I’m for (almost) any group that seeks to break the two-party domination of our politics. Meet at 45 Rock St in Fall River, MA. It’s on the corner of Rock and Bedford Streets at the new Youth Build location and use the rear entrance with the blue awning. Learn more about the group here.

The Portuguese Kids

SATURDAY, FEB. 18 – The world-famous Portuguese Kids return to New Bedford tonight for a special show at Cotali Mar restaurant (1178 Acushnet Avenue). “I’m Not Yelling, I’m Portuguese!” includes comedy and a buffet – and that’s no laughing matter at this great eatery! If you’re not familiar with the Portuguese Kids, here’s the basic 411: The Portuguese Kids are taking ethnic comedy to new heights with their live shows and viral videos highlighting the funnier side of growing up as a kid of an immigrant.” See some of that on their website here. Doors open at 6:30pm, Buffet starts around 7:00pm, show to follow dinner. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased by calling Melinda at 508-989-8576 or online at portuguesekids.com

Meet on The Ave…

BONUS: WEDNESDAY, FEB. 22 – The February NOTworking Business Buzz hosted by Civic Support and Groundwork! Heads up to New Bedford’s north end tonight. Join them on The Ave – as in the fabled Acushnet Avenue – at Incognito bistro & bar from 6:00-8:00pm for some cocktails, networking and NOTworking. Incognito is a nifty little hide-a-way that’s perfect for a strategic retreat from the world; located at 1606-1610 Acushnet Avenue.
