YOUR WEEKEND: The Ending is Only the Beginning…
An Artist for Tomorrow
FRIDAY, JAN. 20 – “Dead Space: The Ending is Only the Beginning” opens tonight here in the Groundwork Gallery. It features the work of one of New Bedford’s most exciting young artists, Andrew Tedesco. Based in the city’s south end at Kilburn Mills Studios, Tedesco is one of the creative sparks keeping the flame of creativity burning bright in New Bedford’s re-purposed mill spaces. He earned his MFA in Painting from UMass Dartmouth only in 2016 – but has distinguished himself by quickly establishing his own aesthetic with a prolific body of work. See for yourself and meet the artist from 6 – 8:00pm tonight. The public is invited to this free opening reception at 1213 Purchase Street. The exhibition will remain up through February 16, 2017.
Fado Night
FRIDAY, JAN. 20 – Incognito bar & bistro at 1606-1610 Acushnet Avenue hosts a FADO NIGHT tonight beginning at 7:00pm. Featuring performances by Sonia Bettencourt & Jose Carlos with Viriato Ferreira & Jose Silva on guitar. $35 includes the show and dinner; reservations required. Make them at (508) 993-3933. We love the vibe at this joint! (Psst – Thursdays are movie nights, too. Follow them on Facebook to keep up with everything happening and Love The Ave!)
Farmers Market Saturday
SATURDAY, JAN. 21 – It may be winter, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a farmer’s market somewhere! In fact, the downtown New Bedford Farmer’s Market is happening today and on the third Saturday of every month in what is usually called the “off-season.” Check out the offerings from 10:00am until 1:00pm in the Bristol Building lobby (750 Purchase Street) beside the Green Bean. Expect local produce, baked goods and an appearance by Acushnet Avenue’s The Farmers Kitchen – promising meat pies, stuffed quahogs and more!
Paradise is here
SATURDAY, JAN. 21 – Check out an Open Studio tonight at Paradise McFee Studio, 104 William Street, downtown NB from 6:00 – 10:00pm. This is a fun, eclectic studio – so expect a groovy vibe this evening! BYOB and enjoy live art and photoshoots, music and more with owner/artist Ryan McFee and special guests…
