A holiday weekend always means a dearth of “official” events. So here’s some things to do that are slightly off-grid but fun….

First Friday

FRIDAY, SEPT. 1 – The first Friday of the month finds Groundwork! Co-workers at the world-famous DIPPER CAFE down the street from us at 1367 Purchase Street. Feel free to join is for our own unofficial First Friday Happy Hour beginning at 5:00pm. A of Sam Adams Summer Ale will only run you $3.75; the peanuts are free.

Farmers Market

SATURDAY, SEPT. 2 – Be sure to check out the New Bedford Farmers Market at gracious Clasky Common Park while the bounty is still at its peak. The market is open every Saturday here from 10:00am – 2:00pm.

The Blue Lane

ANY DAY you want to…is a good day to travel The Blue Lane – New Bedford’s recently inaugurated scenic highway along the waterfront encompassing the Covewalk from W. Rodney French Boulevard and the Harborwalk over on the East side. In between find walking and bike lanes along the beach and through Fort Rodman. The last few miles of the Blue Lane are still in our collective imagination – the Riverwalk up north. But you can fill in the gaps on bike with a straight run along (but not on) Rt. 18 to the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge and Pope’s Island.

SATURDAY or SUNDAY: Need some Back to School clothes? Check out the almost-underground vintage store, CIRCA at 204 Court Street. A simple door open from 11-5 on Saturday and 12-4 on Sunday opens into a panorama of past fashion. For those in the know and on the Get Down, CIRCA is where it’s at. Check out their website here.

FALL PREVIEW: Groundwork! is hitting the road on Sunday, September 17, 2017. We’re pleased to sponsor NBx2: The New Bedford Neighborhood Bus Tour on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017 with the support of MassDevelopment. Here’s the quick 411: Get on the bus for a fresh look at some of the people, places and ideas that drive New Bedford forward. We’ll start downtown and then hit the North, West, and South End neighborhoods in a chartered bus with tour guides, Mark Fuller of the New Bedford Preservation Society and Carl Simmons of the Friends of the New Bedford Free Public Library.
