Erik Johnson: “Family is what inspires me”
We are excited to welcome Erik Johnson to the Groundwork community. A financial advisor by day, Erik is first and foremost a family guy, which makes him an excellent fit here at Groundwork.
Many of our members choose a flexible work/life arrangement so that they can be present for their families in the moments that matter. Conversely, they also need to be present for work on a regular basis, and they know that getting out of the house and into a focused environment is the best way to make that happen.
Learn more about Erik, his work with Pioneer Financial, and how he balances family life in this interview:
What’s your profession?
I am a Financial Advisor and Life Insurance Representative at Pioneer Financial.
Describe a typical work day for you.
First, I take my son to his Vo’s house in the morning. Then I head up to my office in Warwick, RI to help clients to shape their financial plan for the future. I work with different vendors and resources to do what needs to be accomplished for my clients. I communicate with my co-workers and staff to make sure we are on the same page with the action items that need to get done. Then I’ll head home to my wife and son and entertain him until he falls asleep.
What’s the biggest challenge you face at your job?
Challenge might not be the right word but in my job there’s no “one size fits all” solution for clients. I’m working to create a custom approach that fits my clients needs. So the challenge would be developing that plan along the way.
Do you have a morning routine?
I wake up, have a glass of lemon water, get ready for the day and then watch over our son as my wife gets ready for her job. While I have a few minutes I’ll hop on the computer and answer some urgent emails if they need attention before I head into the office.
What are your favorite productivity tips or hacks?
Rewarding myself after I finish a task. A snack, some music. Something to keep me going.
What do you listen to during the day?
Typically some Alternative and R&B music. I’m a big Anderson Paak fan!
How do you benefit from using a coworking space?
I live in Dartmouth but work in Warwick. A lot of my market is still back in this area. This space allows me to meet with some local clients without the hassle of heading up to Warwick to do so. I also like having a space that I can quickly get to if I need to get some work done.
What’s in your digital toolbox?
My favorite app is Smart Office (My CRM) It is vital for my job.
What inspires you?
Without a doubt my family. My grandmother is the reason I got into this business. I watched as she got sick and needed care in a nursing home. I was the Power of Attorney for her and the Healthcare Proxy/Guardian. I watched as $10k/month came out of her account to stay there. I knew I wanted to be a resource and help people to plan for that type of circumstance in their future. My son and wife inspire me everyday to do the best I can.
