The School to Prison Pipeline: A Racial Injustice Pandemic

August 12, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

Across the United States, communities have come together to protest the brutalization of Black and Brown people at the hands of those whose duty is to serve and protect.  While the predominant focus is racism within our justice system, it is crucial to recognize institutional racism is also rampant within our educational institutions.

Join us for an informative discussion on this topic with the creators of The Angry Educators Podcast, Dr. Sarah Medeiros and Dr. Stephanie Biela. They will discuss the school to prison pipeline, what contributes to it, and the irreversible impact it has on children.

Dr. Stephanie Biela is a graduate of UMASS Dartmouth with a Doctorate in educational leadership and policy. She has over 11 years of experience working in special education in both urban and suburban settings.  Her research interests include critical theory, special education, and disability.

Dr. Sarah Medeiros is a graduate of Johnson & Wales University with a Doctorate in educational leadership. She has 10 years of experience working in special education, mostly in an urban setting.  Her research interests include educational equity in the areas of race, disability and special education.
