Black Marker Drawings: Paul (Pip) Everett
November 10, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Everett’s new series of boldly rendered abstract landscapes is stark, sometimes ominous, and uniformly beautiful. He started the series somewhat by happenstance in October 2021 while on a road trip out west. Planning to pay a birthday visit to an uncle in San Antonio, he bought some manila paper so he could use the cardboard packaging to make the card. For a while he wasn’t sure what to do with the leftover paper, but eventually “I remembered that I draw, that I’d always drawn, and that it was at the root of all my expression”.
Before starting BLACK MARKER DRAWINGS last fall Paul had been focusing his visual artistic practice for some years on painting abstract modern impressionist works, based loosely on natural land patterns and buildings. The paintings are often rendered from unconventional perspectives and speak to the tension between humanity and the natural world. Everett describes the black line drawings as a stripped down, bolder variant of these paintings. Approximately 60 drawings will be on display and for sale at the upcoming exhibit in New Bedford.
The second reception will be on Thursday, November 10, 5-7pm, coinciding with New Bedford’s monthly “AHA” second Thursday gallery nights.
Everett and friends will perform original music at the reception.
