YOUR WEEKEND: Biorhythms, Roll & Bowl, Sinatra and more…
The Hollihock Writers Conference
FRIDAY, AUGUST 25 – You’ll find out lots more about HOLLIHOCK in this previous blog post, but it doesn’t hurt to remind readers that this fabulous conference begins this morning at 11:00am at the Star Store campus of UMass Dartmouth in downtown NB. Read all about it here.
4 years of Biorhythms
FRIDAY, AUGUST 25 – The new S & G PROJECT GALLERY in Hatch Street Studios (88 Hatch Street in New Bedford’s north end) holds an opening reception for artist Brooke Mullins Doherty’s “Biorhythms” tonight from 5:00-8:00pm – and it looks wild. Here’s the story: For the past four years, the artist has been exploring events in her life through a weekly monotype series of prints – Biorhythms. The prints are trace monotypes, combining the positive print of white paper with drawn ink lines with the negative reversal of the image that is left on the inked plate. She followed a changing set of rules within each year’s prints that guide her process and imagery, but the overall rules involve taking time to reflect on her week and its most significant occurrence before making the print, which provides visual form to her life as well as structure to her studio routine. The entire four year series will be on display for the first time in this show.
Dog Days (in 24 hours)
SATURDAY, AUG. 26 – The COLLECTIVE NB puts on another of their signature 24-hour play projects tonight at Gallery X (169 William Street, NB). It involves four new plays and the first show is at 7:00pm with the doors opening at 6:30pm – and the stumble through starting at 9:00pm with the doors opening at 8:30pm. As always, all of these plays will have been written rehearsed and performed within 24 hours. “It is spontaneous raw theatre!” they say. Yes, it is! It’s also a BYOB event with a suggested donation of $10.00.
Bowling & Rolling
SATURDAY, AUG. 26 – Downtown NB’s PURCHASE STREET RECORDS hosts a free night of music at Wonder Bowl (66 Hathaway Road, NB). San Dimas will be performing beginning at 9:00pm. Grab your bowling shoes and balls and come on down to bowl and roll – with ‘80s music, no less!
Let’s be Frank
SUNDAY, AUG. 27 – WBSM radio personality TAYLOR CORMIER has a not-so-secret passion for singing Sinatra. Today, he’ll be doing it twice at Carmine’s Italian Ristorante (72 N. Water Street, downtown NB). The smooth tunes come with a Sunday Buffet featuring crab-stuffed sole, chicken parmigiana, veal saltimbooca, appetizers, pizza, pasta and more. Seatings are at 4:00pm and 6:00pm. Tickets to the meal and performance are $60 each adult. For reservations, call 508-999-5555. Ring-a-ding-ding, baby.
