SUMMARY:Art Reception: Selected Works by Jenn Houle
DESCRIPTION:Deer Flash\, Acrylic on canvas\, 40″x46″ 2016 \nJenn Houle’s love of nature stems from her childhood in New Hampshire where she spent summers camping and hiking\, and winters skiing. In 2007\, she received her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and in 2015 graduated from Cornell University’s MFA program. Her work has been exhibited at Site/109\, Chazan Gallery\, Gallery 263\, Montserrat College of Art\, Mass Audubon Habitat and Boston University’s 808 Gallery Space. She has an upcoming shows at UMASS Amherst\, will return as an artist in residence at the Smoky Mountain National Park in June 2017 followed by a residency at the Plumbing Museum in Watertown. She is the recipient of grants from Massachusetts Cultural Council\, Cornell Council for the Arts\, the Einaudi Foundation\, and the John Hartell Graduate Award for Art and Architecture. She has a cat daughter\, Maxine\, whom she faithfully serves and adores.

Please join us for the opening reception on Friday\, April 7th from 6-8 PM.\nExhibition dates: April 3-28\, 2017 \nNo matter how long I work on my relationships with people in the present and the past\, I feel as though I am not prepared to do the work at hand. These paintings lay out all the necessary tools for me to do my job of sorting through my wants and desires\, and organize them into manageable categories. A torch allows me to apply heat to the stubborn rusty bolts that will not budge. The plane smooths the rough edges\, and refines my finish. Block and tackles aid in the heavy lifting\, bearing burdens I could not carry on my own. DESCRIPTION:Join a community discussion with the Community Foundation on how to bring art\, culture\, and creativity to a new level in our city. Pizza will be served! \n\nThis public forum is for gathering visions\, inspiration\, information\, desires and insights for where we could go next with projects that can enrich the cultural landscape of our city.\nThis call is about gathering information on projects that\, for example\, have been successful other places\, and it is a gathering of information… on projects that might be partially formed and in need of funding\, and it is about the gathering of visions for how we could in general move forward as a City.\nThe outcome of this research – initial funding for the public information gathering is sponsored by the Barr Foundation – will be a set of recommendation to that Foundation for what we see as possible grant application topics.\n\nIf the Foundation sees these topics as doable and worthy\, they will fund the initial round of projects\, and a call will go out for applicants. The granting process will be administered by the Community Foundation.\n\nIf you can’t make it on June 6th\, there will be a second session at the UMass Dartmouth CVPA on June 21st from 5-7pm.
