He studied and worked with some of the best artists of a certain generation including Jay Boutin. His work has been exhibited nationally and somewhat internationally throughout his 30 year career\, including locally at Gallery X and the Groundwork Gallery in New Bedford. Born in Santiago\, Chile\, she moved to New Bedford\, Massachusetts\, in 2018 with her family to pursue an MFA\nin Fibers at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Paulina{s earlier work focused on human rights violations during the collapse of democracy in Chile. Her current body of work reflects her interest in exploring the concept of identity and how both personal experiences and external circumstances shape it. \nIn recognition of her outstanding achievements\, Paulina was awarded the Surface Design Association’s Outstanding Student Award in 2019\, a prestigious award recognizing excellence in Fiber graduate and undergraduate students. Paulina is leading a collaborative textile project and organizing a travel exhibition with the minority Latino artists and New Bedford\, Massachusetts\, USA community. While attending college\, she became interested in painting\, studying alongside her mentor and friend Jason Chase. Sonya’s artistic abilities are well-rounded. When she is not painting\, she is making music or writing comedy. Outside of creating she enjoys spending lots of time with her dog Chunk. www.spfoxface.com \n  \nKendra Rosa\n \nKendra Rosa comes from a family of artists who instilled in her a passion for creativity that crosses the boundaries of artistic disciplines. She earned her Associates in Fine Arts from Bristol Community College before attending the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston where she earned her BA in Industrial Design.  \nBorn in Dartmouth Massachusetts\, and currently residing there\, Kendra has also lived and worked in Fall River throughout much of her adult life. The city serves as a strong connection to her Portuguese heritage which is reflected in some of her work. Kendra’s photography captures the beauty of South Coast New England\, her experiences traveling\, and her abstract view of the world. In 2020\, Kendra had her first child which has given her a new and wondrous perspective on life that is portrayed in some of her more recent work. \n  \n“Maki” Mark Carvalho\n \nAmerican Street Artist Mark Carvalho works with hand-cut stencils to create unique\, layered artwork that is constantly evolving. In his words:  “Over a decade of exploration in street art and stencils. My process has evolved from a sterile Photoshop style to an organic one stencil vision that was spawned from the necessity of a vandal. These photographs are the documentation of this journey.” We are revealing a brand-new mural by Maki on Friday. SUMMARY:Opening Reception: This I Love
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate the opening of a colorful and fun group show in the Groundwork Gallery! The opening reception is a public event and all are encouraged to attend. \nIn the words of art show curator\, Mark Gleicher\, \nThis I Love is a group show consisting of art from artists that I know and admire. My hope is to fill the Gallery at Groundwork with a variety of work by a diverse group of creators. While the focus is on artists based in the SouthCoast it is by no means just a local art exhibit. This particular mix of artists has never been seen in one place at a single time. Amazing art by amazing people; This I Love. \nArt show Summer 2022 \nThe Gallery Opening Reception is July 15 @ 5:30-7:30pm. The show will be on view July 1 – September 1\, 2022.
